Amazing we both slept in til after 9AM, very unlike Win and I. Not a problem as nothing opens early in Paris (or I guess France for that matter). So shower, get dressed and head towards the Louvre which is only a short walk away. First of all to Paul's the mobile Baguette van who has a spot close by the Louvre for breakfast of croissants.
Then into the queue to get tickets into the Louvre, not too many here at the main entrance which is the glass pyramid, so quickly thru security, and using auto ticket machines we have passes to get into the Louvre.
This place is huge, and we will not see all of it in one today. It took us awhile to orientate ourselves as the Louvre has been added to and extended over the years. The original building was the royal palace which was moved to Versailles many years (hundreds?) years later. Napoleon I, was the initiator in having the Louvre set up as a museum. This was added to over the years with different wings and extensions added.
We made sure that we saw the favourites that everyone else wants to see as well, Mona Lisa and the statue of Venus de Milo. Spent 3-4 ours at the Louvre, and enjoyed it all.
A late lunch on the way back to our hotel where once again my lousy french was ably assisted by hand gestures and some english by the waiter
We had booked at Le Cafe du Commerce, as this was a restaurant Ben had recommended. We safely negotiated the metro to a station just beside the restaurant, and were delighted to fins that our table was on the first floor, in a top position. I would highly recommend this restaurant, great food, great wines and great service. Our waiter spoke good english, and also assisted with wine selection.
A perfect close to day 2 in Paris.
