Off to Paris

Off to Paris for three days. Win & I are looking forward to this. Tube from South Wimbledon into St Pancras where we change to the Eurostar train, and Paris is only a couple of hours away. We set off on time at 11.01AM, and arrive on time in Paris. At Ben's suggestion we purchased food and wine prior to boarding at St Pancras station and had a very civilised trip to France.

Upon arrival switched from the Eurostar to the Paris Metro, didn't need to switch metro lines, and a few stops later got off at St Germain des Pres. A short walk to our boutique hotel Hotel Acadamie. Checked in then decided to go for a walk towards the Louvre. Tuesday, and the Louvre as with most museums in Paris is closed on Tuesdays, that was fine as we had a good look around outside, and walked beside the Seine, towards the Eiffel Tower. It was about 5ish when we got the the Tower, and the queues were not too bad, Queued for about half hour and got the first of two lifts up to the second level. Then another 45 minute wait to get onto the second lift that goes to the top.

Was it worth it - yes, absolutely spectacular. Took heaps of photos and videos from the 2nd level and from the summit.

After getting back down - why is it that there are hardly any queues when going down, when so many of us went up to the top, we decided to walk back to the hotel, This was a mistake as it was a lot further than I thought even taking a more direct route from the Tower to the hotel.

We were both stuffed so stopped for dinner, using my useless French, but we got a nice meal and wine. Headed back to the hotel for a long night's sleep.
