First Sunday in London

Well here it is Sunday (4/10) in the UK, got up at 6am to get to the pub to watch the NRL Grand Final, between Melbourne Storm and Parramatta Eels.

The pub (the Slug) was packed, it shows most Aussie football (AFL, Rugby & NRL, and was packed with Storm and Parra supporters. It was a good game, and Parra had their opportunities, but just didn't take them. So a few ciders (well it is a good substitute for juice) to get the heart started and a good start to the day.

Then on with rest of the day. We headed into town as Win wanted to visit where she had lived when she was a child living in London with her family before her Dad was posted to Australia and after they returned to the UK.

Amazingly to us all the apartment block is still there, with only some minor changes according to Win.

After a nostalgic sojourn around Win's childhood neighbourhood we headed over to Betty Windsor's house aka Buckingham Palace. Missed the changing of the guard for today, so will come back another day. We then strolled thru St James Park, up the mall to Covent Garden. Had a look around Covent Garden, plenty of street performers and Punch & Judy shows. Tehn went via Drury Lane, not much to see here.

And then off to a pub near Covent Garden (Porterhouse Brewing Co) for Ben to work his way thru the beer menu. They have hundreds from around the world (obviously including Australia). Being the older & conservative person that I am, I held back, just sampling a couple of different Ciders (Pear cider from Ireland - hmmm)

Sunday night and we have booked at "Belgo's" famous for its Belgian beer and mussels. Excellent Sunday night at Belgo's - I highly recommend this restaurant whenever you are in London. We will be back.
